20 gallon hospital tank update

I have posted last week and in this tank was a jaw fish that died 2 days after arrival . Current occupants are possum wrasse , Randall goby , fire fish . The neon goby and Pygmy file fish ORA captive all other fish from ( saltwater fish .com) Unfortunately I did not start dosing metro and kana until tonight Sunday ….jaw fish died on Friday and and all fish were eating doing well , except jaw fish . I was away on 3 day trip and noticed when arriving home today pygmyfile fish has swollen mouth. I hope this medication is not too late and can help , fish ate yesterday for my wife while I was away but not today.

I am not enjoying the aspect of new fish bringing disease to healthy fish . The healthy and always eating Pygmy file fish is dead .The most noticeable change from when I left on Friday to Sunday…….is his mouth ….it is swollen. I have taken a picture of May for a time line of events . My mistake was not starting metroplex and kanaplex upon immediate introduction of other fish on Tuesday the 16 th …….very frustrating and disappointing to be a serial fish killer .

Unfortunately, this is the grim reality when it comes to buying fish nowadays. Sometimes you get lucky, but the safe bet is to adopt some form of chemoprophylaxis to your QT protocol. Or buy from @Vendors - QT Livestock: Quarantined Livestock Vendors

Your list is a VERY TOUGH list! You have some of the most challenging fish there. You might simply want to tamper your expectations as there is a reason a lot of folks don't have the fish you have there. But you can do it!! Dont beat yourself up!

To echo what HF said. It's an unfortunate reality. Even inverts get stuff like this which is why I stopped offering certain inverts until they're bred out and thoroughly QTd. Some inverts are ok even without QT. But going forward I won't be offering anything that hasn't been through my new QT and pest cleaner systems to individuals or public sellers.

I had a theory I tested a while back. Actually with na aip file fish. I been testing it in limited capacity. I don't want to say too much because I'm not much of a fish guy and don't want bad info floating around before I go over it with someone knowledgeable. Buy it specifically involves using a certain set of pest inverts to physically remove any parasites and clean out mouthes and rot and eat fallen off tomonts and eggs and the like. It's a balancing act though so it needs outside testing and before then needs input from experienced fish keepers.

The file fish seemed very hardy and well adapted. This fish had plenty of confidence, ate well , all types of food , and was always exploring. i don’t have before and after pictures but does it look like any type of bacteria or fungal infection on mouth area
