I love starkii's! I have one in my sump I plan to add but wanted to get all the more peaceful fish in first.

Picky fish is definitely stressful and time consuming as are delicate ones.
have you ever paired them? not sure how that will go, but i have 2 qt tanks ready to go so i can play it by ear. hopefully one is bigger than the other, i figure they should be somewhat similar to clowns as far as pairing goes

yeah i mean someday i'll have to deal with the difficult fish, leopard and tamarin wrasses are my favorite, but man this china wrasse has really tested my patience.

I have not, I actually bought the female of a pair when the male died. I think there is a size difference like you said.

Do Starcki's eat flatworms like Springer's do??
I don't think so? My springers is always swimming around pecking at things... the glass... the rock...my frag rack. The Starcki seems to like to build caves under rocks and toss the sand around in that area and defend it... she even had to fend off the jawfish from stealing it.

Behavior wise they almost seem like different fish. I don't even think my springers has a 'home base' like damsels do. She is all over looking for bugs like one of the wrasse.

yeah my springers is funny, he/she seems to sleep wedged into the same area of rocks at night, but kind of picks and hovers in different spots. whenever i put a frag rack in with some frags she seems to hang there

i have an azure in another tank that has a little cave and is not about to move, i've never seen it outside of that area, maybe 6-9 inches above that cave and that's it. that one reminds me of how my orchid dottyback behaves. has the cave area, comes out and hovers, but then back into the cave quickly if anything spooks it

i've read that talbots are big on the sandbed burrowing kind of thing like @Tamberav describes.

i'm hesitant to try a copperband too, even at the $18 price point i saw one recently.

i've had a china wrasse for like 2 months and getting it to eat has just been the worst. i really don't feel like messing with another fish that is super picky. I just did a liveaquaria order of 2 starcki damsels, a royal gramma, and a christmas wrasse h. claudia, so excited to get some fish that will likely eat with gusto!
LFS has a china wrasse for $50. Temping but passed as I doubt it would be a good fit when I have a bunch of established wrasses flying around my tank as I read they can be bullied or shy. Has yours ate prepared yet?

The damn LFS keeps getting in all these unusual pretty fish

it has been weird. at the lfs mine was eating freaking pellets so i was like oh cool there's the hardest step. i got it home and she only ate a handful of pellets. she'd kinda pick at LRS type foods, but seems it's few and far between. i finally put her in my DT and she still ignores food in lieu of picking at the rocks all day long. my two halichoeres wrasses didn't notice i even added her, but they're known to be more peaceful (biocellatus and chrysus). my flame angel is the only one that has been slightly rude. the only stuff she really seemed big on was live blackworms and masstick

from what i can gather if you find one that eats you should be mostly good. perhaps my main mistake was trying to QT it in a 10 gallon tank, she was really unhappy in there and only got better after a freshwater dip and into my 20g long QT tank.

Very temping...!! My wrasse are more peaceful types but they still give a little chase and act tough at times but no injuries.

I would need a bigger tank eventually but wrasses have always grown slow for me even though I keep their bellies fat.

Sounds like my potters. Ate at the store but now picks mostly and acts like a spaz in the 25g. I do wonder if the tank is just too small for it.

i need a bigger tank too, but from what i can gather from people that have kept the china wrasse they grow super slowly and almost never transition to male in the home aquarium. but yeah i thought they maxed out at 6" or so, but liveaquaria says 9" and fishbase says 20 cm or 7.8" or so

hmm 25g you'd think would be enough temporarily, but i'm glad i'm not alone. seems everyone else is like if it's eating at the lfs you're good to go! i thought i was the only one that could buy a fish that's eating at the lfs, but then gets home and despite throwing everything and the kitchen sink at it, the fish is like Meh

You sure do like a challenge!
I like unusual fish and from what I found this one is peaceful. Can you tell me anything about it? Have you had any? I found very little info on it and some conflicting information. It is with a bluestar leopard which is MUCH smaller but they seem to get along (so far), the potters angel and a ruby red that has been hanging out in this tank (easy to feed it in a small tank).

I pretty much buy or get everything weird the store has if it will fit....

They had this really strange hitchiker crab they are going to give me tomorrow for my fuge.

It seems my pygmy filefish have spawned, the female was suddenly chasing any fish away from a certain area and upon closer look she is tending to a certain spot on the macro algae. Unfortunately it is in an area that would be difficult to take pics of.
