Bacterial Tufts & Viral Nodules

Has anyone had viral noodles/ bacterial tuffs only last a few days instead of longer than 7? My regal tang is still getting one of these on and off for about 4 days at a time and then it disappears. It's no where near as bad as when she was in copper for 10 day's though. I'd say she's getting a little sick from the sand bed constantly being disturbed by my new diamond Goby after the sand was left uncleaned for 2 months during QT.
I've had them last only a few days - couple months. It all depends upon how strong the fish's natural immune system is at overcoming the harmful bacteria or virus.

From what I know it’s just a reaction to the copper. It will go away with time when he finishes treatment.

Agreed with Miami Reef on this, its a reaction to the copper. I would strongly suggest finishing out the two weeks in copper and then transferring him to a new clean setup. You should see the bumps go away in about a week, sometimes as little as a couple days other last a bit longer. A really good diet will help him heal faster as well. You can find info here:

I actually want to talk about my blue tang. I put him through 2.4-2.5ppm copper for 14 days plus transfer. And after he looked like this for >7 days.

I wasn’t sure if I maybe cross contaminated at some point. Who knows?

So I put this poor fish through ANOTHER copper treatment. It’s currently in the copper at 2.4ppm-2.5ppm tested daily with Hannah checker.

The spots went away almost overnight when he was put into copper again. But today is day 10 of the same copper treatment and he got the same marks as the above photo. Covering his lateral line WHILE IN COPPER.

I think this proves that it was the viral/bacterial nodules and not ich/velvet. If sub therapeutic copper makes visual symptoms of ich disappear, then how come mine has “ich” in full copper?

I think I’ll just transfer them out into observation tank and watch them for 2 weeks after the last viral spots go away.

These fish were already treated for ich, velvet, and brook. I just thought that I messed up and cross contaminated somewhere during the observation period. That’s why I did another copper treatment.

Sometimes these bacterial tufts/viral nodules look just like Ich or Velvet, and it's scary how completely covered the fish can get with them. Especially Hippo Tangs. However, excellent water quality + vitamin soaked foods will usually clear both conditions given time. I would also add Beta-glucan + probiotics to the food. The only fish which usually succumb to these ailments are ones that are immunocompromised.

If they have been in therapeutic copper for 10 days then I will simply say its not ich. It certainly could be bacterial nodules though, Blue tangs are very prone to these in copper. Most likely you will see flashing shortly after as well as they seem to be itchy.
