I just cleaned my filter socks and thought about this.
I just got my new sump and I didnt think about the fact that I was washing the socks out in the laundry tub, you know the same one that gets all the soup from the laundry spewing into it... Well I would lay the socks down in the sink as I washed them.... Then let them dry. A week later it would be the socks turn again and I would install... Then boom, Skimmer went crazy, and My corals all look like crap! Bleaching out and all the PE I was getting is gone. I'm an idiot...

Needless to say I figured this out today, and am now running carbon and GFO to remove everything from the water. So dumb.

I'm so sorry you have to go through that on a Sunday night! Hope all is well by morning!

I was like, Man my tank is looking Really good, and I am extremely happy with it! What can I do to make it even better....

I know, Mix this, add that and use a bit of Soup!! Tastes Great!! What in the world man....

It's been one of those weeks. Have a couple of corals that are angry in my qt tank, so I have been doing some extra water changes etc.

I come down this morning at 10 am to see how everyone is doing and I about have a heart attack. Every coral is completely retracted, the lights been on for an hour, so it shouldn't be like this. I am wondering what in the heck is going on.

So I go back upstairs and finish getting all of the kids ready for the day, the whole time worrying/contemplating in my head, trying to figure out what I am going to do.

I head back downstairs after about an hour and voila, every coral is fine..... Apparently I don't know when my light turns on. Lol. It comes on at 10, so I must have walked down to check right after it turned on. What a dummy. 😂

Good thing I didn't do anything drastic.

Sorry man that sucks!
Been there although most survived the ones that didn’t make it were corals like Xenia, GSP stuff like that I can’t remember exactly which ones though

Now our wash and rinse cycle is like 3hrs long with no soap and all socks socks in bleach before the wash

Corals are looking happier and the nems are too... So I am guessing getting the carbon running has helped.

Between painting a door to the basement, (Another new install) cleaning my basement, getting the 3 bathrooms ready to go for the fresh installs I got my RODI carbon block, sediment filter and 2 new membranes changes. I also added the water saver system so that is awesome. Super happy to be saving some water and also making RODI much quicker.

Almost forgot...
As @NY_Caveman would say, "I received a box of rocks today." It still strikes me as funny that we are a bunch of crazy people that ship rocks across the world and pay top dollar to do it. I got 35lbs worth of rocks (Paid $55 Shipped) today and all in all not to bad. I got some rock from TX that isnt out of the sea so I really like that idea. ("Calcium Carbonate base rock taken from an above ground coral reef in Texas.") Will get these suckers going right away. The good news is the other 35lbs is coming out of my established Nano tank.

Box of rocks spread out.

I also got my Power Bay for the cabinet, I will need a bit more then just these 8 but wanted to test these and make sure they are as great as everyone says. I will let you all know when its installed and is up and running.

Figured I would post these couple things:)
Sorry I am late to the party-can anyone fill me in on why everyone loves these "power centers" so much? The main benefits I see are that you can turn individual outlets on/off without unplugging and the built in circuit breaker, but I still don't quite get it, especially when lots of us use controller-supplied powerbars anyways.

What's the benefit of these, and what's the typical setup if you also have some sort of powerbar for your controller?

I don't run a controller, and like them. They also have BEEFY cords, so running a heater and standalone controller on them is non-issue.

^ This -- I run one of these for my "Always On" stuff. Things that I don't want my controller to control or dont need to take up one of the premium plugins that we pay for. They work really well in my stand as the profile works perfect and I can have it way up in the corner and still able to click things on and off if I need to.

But I guess, I why is this worth the $50 over a basic $15 power strip from Amazon?

I like that its setup in a rack format, again works really well for my application. Also you can run 15 A through this with high quality pluging in the back. Its build very sturdy and can take a beating. I am not saying its better for everyone, I am simply saying for my application it works great! I would recommend them to anyone interested in a very heavy duty plug.

Well it's been a long time since i have posted on here... The truth is everything went to 💩...

I put in the new sump and gave my tank a deep clean. Well that was WAY to much change for my tank to deal with so it kind of just collapsed all around. The fish are fine, even though the tangs are starting to get aggressive with one another so one will have to go. I just have no idea what child I will have to get rid of. Makes me really sad...

Yet it is the best thing to do for the fish, it's not fair to be constantly stressed. I am all about leaving them to work it out so I will let it go for only a little while longer before I make a move. The Nem is all but dead I think... He has been shrinking in size, isn't sticky anymore and generally looks much less healthy then he did before. Again, right when the tank was at its peak I 🦆ed it up.... Sucks so bad...

Well, the one thing I have learned in this hobby and running the FIsHotel is you have to pick yourself up quickly and start doing action to make it right again. So that is what I have been doing... And everything is coming back to life, all the corals I thought I had lost are coming back to life... Their colors are showing again and the I actually have PE again. I have restarted my battle with phosphates as the water change and mixing the sand bed the way I did must have released Absolute tons of it into the water. So they went back through the roof, I have it all under control again when I realized something....

I have had been reading Zero on my Nitrates ever since i can remember..... I know most of you know where i am already going with this. After a chat with my buddy @Jposch he reminded me that I could simply be Nitrate/Phosphate locked... Ugh, so dumb... I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before but we are now taking action to further help the tank get back to what it should be. I have no idea how I can have zero nitrate with how much I feed but have a million PO4. So frustrating this hobby some days.

So the Plan:
I am actually dosing Nitrates.... So weird... I will dose 5 ppm Nitrate every other day until I start getting a reading above zero and try and hover it around 15ppm. I am hopeful that at the same time my Phosphate will come down and I can pull the tank off the GFO.

Here is the sad tank under 14k Lights to show all the ugliness in full color.
