KP Aquatics. Came in Friday. On the fence. The quality of the rock itself is really great. The coralline coverage was pretty weak and devoid of any life. That was disappointing. They usually do better than that. It is curing now and I plan to switch the rock out in about 5 or 6 weeks.
Oh man that stinks. It say on there site it’s only in the ocean minimum of 2 years?? That can’t be right would think they would have it in there at least 5 years before selling. The stuff gulf live rock sells says it was dumped back in 1994. That seems far fetched also. Would think they would of ran out be now lol. I ordered a few test pieces for my nano from GLR and it’s nice looking rock. Have pulled 2 unknown crabs from it that look close to a gorilla crab but that’s about the only hitchhikers I’ve found I didn’t want.

Absolute best place to splurge and get LR is Tampa Bay saltwater.

Agree. I have done Tampa, Gulf-View, KP Aquatics (now) and Sea Life Inc (KP under Ken). Quality at KP is not what it used to be, Ken ran the shop far better. Best rock I have ever had in regards to life was Tampa, second to know. Tampa uses and dense rock though, which is why I went KP this time. I may get some TBS premium to top off the structure and get the life back.

I know what it says and I know how Ken used to run the shop. It is not the same. The rock is Miami Oolite, which is just an awesome rock. You would have a hard time convincing me this rock was down there for two years though.

Gorillas are a common hitchiker to all three companies I worked with. Easy enough to remove.

This is crazy. What the is this! They are so tiny even magnified and long. But I have brown bubble stuff again in the GHA in tank and on frag rack. Lol

I've started dosing zeobak to get a modified version of zeo but higher nutrients. Po4 is .05 atleast. .05-.08 and no3 was like 3. Working up to 10.

This is killing me. No more sand either. I out uv back in a week ago cause of this but doesn't look like ostreopsis. Or it would have been gone already

Hard to say what the motile guys are at that magnification. The immotile circles remind me of chrysophytes. Is that at your maximum magnification?

The stationary green circles remind me of chrysophytes I also see some coolia dinoflagellates. I'm not familiar with the motile green protists. I would contact taricha over on r2r. He's very knowledgeable about these things.

It's another type of protist, closely related to diatoms. Here is another thread on them from r2r:

I don't even know what chryso is. So I'm assuming even though they might turn red/brown to resemble Dino's. They aren't toxic like dino?

Correction though I don't have a golden algae. I have red snot inside my gha. Not like a golden algae hair like growing on my rocks?

And the coolia and such isn't moving. It's only the weirdo things moving. My old coolia I had awhile ago. They moved around. Every circle is frozen in bunches not moving. Except those wierdos

This is what chrysophytes look like on their own, they don't look like a filamentous algae. They create a mucus mass.

But what I see in your samples is a combination of dinos/possible chysos with some algae mixed in so it may be that the color you see is due to the dinos I'm not sure. They are not harmful to corals or inverts like dinoflagellates can be as far as I know. IME dinoflagellates will stop moving if they've been on the slide too long. I bet they get too cold or something. I would run it by Taricha.

I did. Waiting for a response. Thanks. PS. Nothing else is moving when we take a fresh sample. Odd

And I guess regardless I can remove my temp UV. I don't see ostreopsis. So these aren't going into water column.....

I thought coolia actually goes down under sand
