HELP Disease after H2O2 dosing

SO! Today I received my @AquaBiomics DNA tests results back that I collected back on 4/7/23. This test was sent off after my tank was treated with OVER 6 weeks of H2O2 dosing + UV. All of the fish that I started with when I began dosing (minus 1 that died early on) are still alive, have no visible signs of disease, and are acting normal. I also have not added any new fish in this timeframe. Naturally, I thought things were going well.
Then, the report:

Couple questions:
1) Seeing as Ich is STILL present in such tiny quantity (0.24%), am I to consider my whole effort a failure, or are these levels low enough that it’s negligible? I was hoping @Jessican might be able to weigh in since you successfully treated your tank this way, or maybe @Fish Disease Experts could offer advice.

2) Follow up on the above question, should I resume hydrogen peroxide dosing? Again, @Jessican.

3) Uronema. Heteromarinum, specifically. I’ve never had a problem with Uronema before. In fact, I’ve never owned Chromis, Damsels, Anthias, or Butterfly fish, which are most common to get this. None of my fish have any red sores or markings that would have made me think they have it. Just like the Ich, it is present in such a small quantity, 0.1%. This is a fish only tank, so what are my options?

4) Diatoms. This is still a problem, it’s been coding the sand bed, and I’ve been manually removing as much as I can but I don’t think it’s working. I have high nitrates and 0 phosphates. I’m trying to bring down the nitrates, but it’s a predator tank so feeding gets messy and they produce a lot of waste. I just treated the tank for Cyano last week and I see some coming back now. Any suggestions?

It's negligible for right now, but the parasites will continue to multiple & spread. Unless you are continuously utilizing a disease management tool (e.g. UV, ozone, diatom filter) to keep their numbers in check + bolstering your fishes' immune systems by offering good nutrition, vitamins, probiotics, etc.

I don't believe it's ever been proven that U. heteromarinum parasitizes fish the way U. marinum does. 🤷‍♂️

I would resume. Six weeks is the bare minimum for dosing, but I suspect ich is the hardest to get rid of. We have also confirmed that uronema heteromarinum can be eliminated via dosing (although I don’t think it’s been confirmed that it causes disease, compared to uronema marinum, and probably isn’t that concerning either way if you don’t have susceptible fish).

I have a few people testing out a slightly different dosing schedule that is designed to better target ich, so I’d suggest switching your schedule to this:
  • Daytime doses: 3x a day (11 am, 5:30 pm, 12 am)
  • Overnight doses: Every 15 minutes from 2 am to 9 am
In a FOWLR, you can also increase the dosage up to 1mL/gal (vs 1mL/5g for reef tanks). This can be hard on the beneficial bacteria, though, so I would dose bacteria as well.

Your fish are doing well, so that’s a good thing. Did you have an initial test result to compare this new one with and see if the ich amount is lower?

What is a diatom filter?

I will try this increased dose and make sure to dose bacteria as well, probably daily.

Nope, not an actual test, just before and after pics.

@Jessican so to confirm dosing, with my 525XL at the 1:1 dosing ratio, it will be 139ml daily (divided into 3 dosing periods) and at night DOUBLE it and run from 2-9am?

Oh WOW, that is hitting it hard!
Yeah, you’re gonna run through some peroxide (luckily it’s cheap). It might be worth trying to get your hands on 35% at that level (I’ve gotten it from homebrew stores).

Ho

How would the dosing change?
Just keep it simple and divide by 10. Your daytime doses would become 13.9mL 3x per day, and your overnight doses would become 1.15mL every 15 minutes from 2am-9am.

Ah, of course! Now to see where I could get this and maybe save some money, lol.

Actually, I just found a place online that has 35%. So even though it’s about 12x stronger than standard, it’s still taking the dose and just dividing by 10?

You could divide by 12 if you want to, that would be more exact. I just go with 10 because it’s easy math and a few mLs either way isn’t a big difference. 🤷‍♀️
I see, fair enough. Well thanks for telling me about the concentrated version, I think that will save me a lot of time constantly swapping bottles out!
