I joined a few bearded dragon groups this week. HOLY CRAP these folks make the FB reefers look like geniuses. It's painful. I'm talking room temp IQ levels with most posters. One woman is a radiology tech. She went to college (I FB stalked her because I wanted to know if it was just a child posting). She wanted to know if the positive fecal test she got back from her vet was really just because she fed mealworms to her dragon that morning. She had NO idea there would be a difference between food and parasite results in the test.

The majority of posts in these groups are walls of text with no punctuation. They're full of spelling issues or words used entirely wrong altogether. Simple things like adults using "too" over and over when they mean "to", "bin" instead of "been". It's hard to read and understand what some are trying to say. They all seem to mean well, it's just really weird to see the average IQ drop THAT much from the reef-keeping groups (which are pretty bad to begin with) to the bearded dragon group.

The other thing about these groups is there/their are so many members from all over the world. So once you translate something it reaaly makes no since/sense. Hope you see what I did there/their.

@Lachri 🤣🤣🤣 I hear you thou English is my second language I take it a bit personally 🥴
As I said, these are all people local to me. Their only language is English, so nothing for you to take personally.

I was simply fascinated by the difference between discussions in reef groups vs the bearded dragon group.

I am not great at English. English is my husbands second language and he is better at it than me. Maybe I just picked up too many bad habits. That being said, it isn’t facebook level lol and nurses just type in all abbreviations so it’s fine 😆

I would be in trouble without spell check 🤪

I think social media/internet has just made the stupidity more public.

The public education could def be better. Also, the tools are out there to improve your education if you want, after high school I mean.

Facebook is just Facebook, haha I try to avoid it!
I don't know if the system as whole is collectively bad, I think alot has to do with individual teachers doing the bare minimum, and just giving everyone a passing grade, so as not to see them again next year. Lol
There is also the good old. "Can't fix stupid." There really are many many individuals out there who are just not very intelligent to begin with. You have to attempt to understand what it is like to not be able to process things as quickly or effectively. Most long term reef hobbyists are in the higher end of intelligence, and thus were able to understand what went wrong, or were able to mitigate tank disasters preemptively.
Anyone who says "my tank crash" vaguely like that I just assume doesn't really understand what happened, and why it is thier likely fault, or what could have been done to avoid it.
