Can I dose Metro with Chloroquine Phosphate. I suspect that there is something bacterial going on. I have lost three fish with no external signs of disease or damage. They just died overnight two to three days into treating with CP. I have started Kanamyacin in the food but not every fish is eating.

If you suspect it’s something bacterial then you’d have better luck dosing kanamycin and CP

Honestly, I don't have a good answer for this

If you have a septic tank, then at least the formalin would be confined to that area if you flushed it down the toilet.
I once researched into this and it depends on local ordinances and waste treatment facility protocols. You can call the waste treatment in the area to get a correct answer. I found resources that you can purchase formaldehyde neutralizer that schools and labs use but it was quite pricey.

Is there any reason formalin-water shouldn’t be dumped outside somewhere? I assume it would dissipate into the air eventually.

Also I have 3 fish finishing a standard QT process - valentini puffer, hippo tang, yellow tang. Will these handle a formalin bath well? And would doing a bath before transferring them to my DT serve the purpose of a safeguard for anything that may have slipped through my QT, or is a single bath truly only “temporary relief” and pointless now?

My only concern would be the puffer. @Dierks Have you used formalin on any puffers?

I was going to do the 45 minute bath. This puffer has handled ~2.4ppm copper and 2 H2O2 baths fine though.
Then I ma of no help, my assumption he would be fine but I have not done the Baths.

Is using formalin the way I’m suggesting practical, as a final treatment before transferring to my main tank? Or not worth it?
A 45-60 minute formalin bath will most likely knock off any "surface parasites" (e.g. brook, flukes). But it also has limitations... It won't do anything about ich, won't completely eliminate velvet, and won't remove fluke eggs.

Does hypo kill fluke eggs or does it only effect after they hatch, hence the 35 days?

Would it be ok to do a half dose of the formalin (12.5ppm) for 10 days and a regular amount of chelated copper in a qt for treating ich and brook at the same time? I saw you said chelated copper is ok to use with formalin. I just wanted to confirm that 12.5ppm for 10 days is enough for brook. What is a safe level of chelated copper to use with it?

Hey @Wesley86 if you know it's brooks I would strongly suggest running Copper and Metroplex. If you don't know and you want to cover all your bases then run .9 - 1 ml per 10 gallons and run your copper at 2.35ish

hello humble. right now i siphon the sand from my main tank. there are only rocks and fish. I wonder if i apply formalin in the main tank, will the rocks absorb the formalin? will it also use formalin in hyposalinity? I ask silly questions, but believe me, I can't decide what to do.
