Star Wars

So, we went to go see the new Star Wars movie today. (Don't worry, no spoilers below.) I'm not a superfan or anything, but I did grow up watching The Original Trilogy. I can remember arguing with my friends (before Return Of The Jedi) about whether or not Darth Vader was Luke's father. :p It was a big deal to us kids; we were always looking forward to the next movie. And of course, there was all the related toys. I had some of the action figures and a few ships, but my best friend had the Millennium Falcon (that was a BIG DEAL). His bedroom was Star Wars central. :D

I can't remember where I was in life when the prequels came out, but I do remember thinking, "How cool." I'll admit I was a little disappointed each time after seeing them, but over the years I guess I am now OK with the prequels. They just don't have the same magic/allure of The Original Trilogy. I didn't really enjoy "The Force Awakens" or "The Last Jedit" either, but at least with this last movie (Rise Of Skywalker) it was all coming to a (merciful) end. :p I just don't like how they prioritize special effects over the storyline, especially not developing Rey's character.

Anyway, today was the big day (for us) and this afternoon we saw, "Rise Of Skywalker". :D First off, I was surprised how empty the movie theater was. Sure, it was Xmas Eve but the movie has been out for less than a week. (But I did read some pretty negative reviews on the movie.) So, we're about halfway through the movie and I'm thinking, "What is everyone complaining about, this isn't so bad." I looked over at my wife and even she seemed to be sorta into it. (She's not a Star Wars fan.) But as the movie approached the end, I was like, "Is this for real?" My wife's demeanor had changed to can this please just end? Maybe some of you will have a different take, but I would really be OK if Star Wars ended for good after this movie. :(

Masstick

Forgot about this for a few days! :p @Tamberav reminded me about Masstick today, so that's what I'm gonna write about. For those who are unfamiliar with this product look here: http://www.easyreefs.com/en/masstick_en.html

I first heard of Masstick from a friend who worked at Coralvue. He told me mandarins go crazy over this stuff. That really peaked my interest, because I had been looking for a go-to food ever since Quality Marine stopped producing Nutramar Ova. (These are prawn eggs mandarins in QT would readily eat!) Anyway, Masstick is a powder that becomes a sticky paste once rehydrated with water. It can be stuck to any surface, and you can soak meds in it and/or use a vitamin supplement (e.g. Selcon) to rehydrate. I usually stick the paste to the inside of an empty clam shell for butterflies, or on a small rubble rock for tangs & mandarins. Something they would pick at anyway.

How well does it work?? TBH, it has been very hit or miss for me. I've had better luck with Copperbands (and other finicky butterflies) that got used to eating clams, and then I smear Masstick inside the empty clam shell. Sometimes mandarins will pick at it, sometimes not. But no where near as well as they used to eat Nutramar Ova. In all cases the fish are more likely to eat Masstick once they are out of QT, presumably because no medications are in the water for Masstick to absorb (the taste of.) Which sucks because getting certain fish to eat in QT has always been one of my biggest challenges! Sometimes I just stick a glob of it to the glass and let all the fish eat it. :)

Think live worms. Mandarins like worms almost as much as they like Star Wars. They eat Masstick, but they hate you afterwards because it gives them gas. 🤪

Those are hit or miss for me as well. Even with Mandarins and Copperbands. It seems with certain fish that it takes a little bit for them to warm up to the concept of eating worms. ;)

Cats

I never was a cat person. I've owned dogs all of my life. Same goes for my wife. But when we moved here, we noticed all the stray cats everywhere in the neighborhood. We resisted feeding them at first, but when my wife saw a super skinny cat jump out of our garbage can I knew we had to do something.

So, we started putting food & water out. "Starvin' Marvin" eventually took notice and started coming around. We never could pet Marvin, but he would tolerate us from a distance. Unfortunately, "Socks" also wanted to eat some of the food, but apparently Socks & Marvin were both boy cats competing for the same territory. We would hear the fighting, run outside, and my wife would spray them with a hose to breakup the ball of grey fur. :p Eventually Marvin brought his girlfriend (Rosa) around, and some time after that Rosa brought us 3 kittens: Mini-me (looked just like Rosa), Patches (she has swirl markings), and Scaredy Cat (the most timid of the 3). Even the kittens were fearful of us, and it took some time before they would allow us to pet them.

Some other cats started coming around (this is getting out of hand!); however other cats started disappearing. Namely, Marvin and Socks. A lady at Winn-Dixie explained to me that feral cats around these parts have lots of natural predators: Bears, wolves, poisonous snakes, even large birds of prey scoop up kittens. Who knew all this was going on just 2 miles inland from beautiful Navarre Beach??

Now, we realized we should be getting all these cats spayed or neutered. But the way it works here is you reserve a spot way in the future, and you have to bring the cat to the humane society at a specific day/time. They fix the cat for a nominal fee, and you get the cat back to release. Probably works ok if the cat would let you put it in a cage, but when you can't get too close you are at the mercy of a small animal trap a day or two before the date.

We did eventually tame Mini-me, Patches, and Scaredy Cat; and also another litter of kittens that we found homes for (pics below). Now only Scaredy Cat and a couple other feral cats still come around to eat. We've tried to tame Scaredy Cat to the point where we could rehome her, but she only tolerates being inside for so long, and will scratch/bite if you handle her too much. I told my wife I am so ready to go back to being a "dog person" again. :D

I keep forgetting about this...

80s music

So, I'm an 80s child. Open up a time portal to the 1980s, and I'll jump through it. IMO; we had enough technology to make us comfortable during the 1980s, but didn't have to worry about it taking over our lives & spying on our every move like it does today. You still had privacy and could just "get away from it all" if needed. But let's talk about 1980s music...

Probably my favorite singer is George Michael. That man had such a beautiful voice. I am also a big fan of: Tears for Fears, Hall & Oates, Phil Collins, Annie Lennox, Depeche Mode... you get the idea. ;) Just something about the music from that era really resonates with me. Like anything & everything is still possible, and the sky is the limit. Of course, I'm sure everyone feels that way about the music they grew up with.

In the 1980s we also had music videos! That's what MTV was for before whatever it is they do now. :p Probably my favorite music video is Billy Joel's "A Matter of Trust". And instead of boring you any longer with my rambling, I leave you with that video:

My socks are from the 80s. :p

We had music in the 60s and 70s. By the way, Billy Joel is as old as me and he lives near me. But I would rather see Christie Brinkley, one his his Ex wives.

We had Billy Joel but we also had Janis Joplin, Linda Ronstadt, The Bugs, or Beatles, The Animals, (House of the Rising Sun)

The Stones, (I met Mick Jager as I was on an Island with him last year) "I can't get no Satisfaction"

Elvis and many of the greats.
I can't believe the Tokens are still singing, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". They are Geezers and can still hit the notes.

None of them actually quarantined anything which is why their music is so iconic. :ROFLMAO:

The Bachelor and Bachelorette

So, my wife makes me watch TV with her in the evenings. :p She cuddles with me on the couch as I pretend to be interested in these TV shows she likes, but I'm actually on here answering your questions. I'm doing it right now. ;)

Anyway, one of the shows she's into ATM is "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette". For those not familiar with this abomination, it's basically a TV show about a young, attractive bachelor (or bachelorette) being wooed by 20-30 members of the opposite sex. Everyone on the show looks like a supermodel, as @Paul B would say. Sometimes the men are actually prettier than some of the women. So basically the bachelor/bachelorette starts off with 20-30 members of the opposite sex to choose from, but eventually whittles it down to just one person that they want to marry. Although one could argue none of these people have any business getting married at this point in their lives.:ROFLMAO:

Now, "Alabama Hannah" seems to be on almost every one of these things I have seen. She was "The Bachelorette" on one of the shows, and after many weeks eventually found the man she wanted to marry. Except it didn't work out in the end because he was just using her (and the show) to further his music career. So, she sent him packing. Now everyone wanted Hannah to pick "Pilot Pete" because they ahem... had a very good physical connection... but unfortunately Pete came in third place. :(

But now Pete has a chance to find true love because he's the latest "Bachelor", and now the women are chasing him instead of him pursuing Hannah (on her show). So, in the first episode they have 30 women arrive to meet him and of course they are all beautiful. And then at the very end guess who shows up!?? ALABAMA HANNAH! She's back! Yay! Except all the other women aren't happy to see here there, since in their (and my) mind she had her chance at Pilot Pete and blew it. :p

We'll have to stay tuned and see what happens! I apologize for just wasting the 2-3 minutes it took you to read this. Those are moments of your life that you'll never be able to get back. :D:LOL::ROFLMAO:
