I consider 16" and below to be shallow, for no real reason.

List seems to be forming up a bit more:

1x Purple Tang
1x Starry Blenny
1x Clown morph (to pair off with the mis-bar osc)
2x Springer's Damsels (just love the little metallic blue they radiate).
5x _________ Anthias...

I am comfortable with sourcing the blenny, clown and the damsels myself to run them through QT, but I will most likely outsource the tang and anthias to a full QT shop. Had local suggestion of a powder blue/brown, but I don't think that would be a good long-term fit for a decently shallow tank that will have colonies dotting the middle of it sooner than later.

Is there anywhere you know of that does a full QT up here??

Not yet.. Waiting to see what the guy just outside of Edmonton is doing if he replies to @Humblefish.

I'm about to finish up my fish list and while I can QT, I'd prefer to just have to observe, he might have a few customers if he does decide to go for it

Nice nice. Kind of hoping chatter like this spurs some others. Reading our local FB groups is depressing seeing the posts of "what is this" followed by brook infested clowns, velvet, outbreaks of uronema all over the place last year. I actually hate going in the stores and looking at retail sales tanks, it's depressing to see half the fish scratching constantly.

IMO in general the quality of livestock I've been seeing the past like 18 months has been rather crappy. Is the only solution to get out of this eventually to get someone QT'n that scales to the point they cut out the distributors and trans-ship directly? I see zero signs this industry, especially the LFS, are ever going to change their behavior of just shoveling fish out the door.

I mean, you generally do get healthier fish when direct importing or using transhippers. Because the fish at least don't have to pass through the disease-ridden wholesale facilities. However, the downside is sometimes ordering from overseas can go sideways (the fish are stuck in transit for too long) and you end up getting boxes full of dead fish. And good luck getting a refund from the overseas people.

I think some quarantining could be done at the wholesale level, but we would all have to be willing to pay more. However, I feel a "full QT" at the wholesale level is an unreasonable expectation given the volume of fish they deal with.

I'm talking to the guy located outside of Edmonton tonight, so I should have a yay or nay on him by tomorrow morning.

A quick thought, if not for this than potentially the future: Interviewing quarantine companies / shops; “break down” what the major issues they’re seeing are, what we as consumers can do to help them out (aside from buying fish from them), how to better educate the masses, etc.

Sort of a take off of the seahorse chat that I caught part of, could be part of the HF site experience?

I wonder if they routinely bleached their tanks in between shipments or ran UV sterilizers if that would go a long way. No idea how they are run I just imagine a giant cesspool that is never broken down.

"Humblefish & Friends" is in the works. :) This will be an informational video series with Q&A afterwards, but I do plan on doing interviews as well. (y)

The look of Resplendent anthias is growing on me, though I still haven't been able to see any in person. Got in contact with TJ and he said they're a great pick. @Humblefish anything particular about QT'n the resplendents that stood out?
  • Feed small meals multiple (4-5x) times per day
  • Provide plenty of hiding spots (PVC caves, plastic plants) especially if quarantining a male with a bunch of females
  • Avoid using copper (or any meds) on them, if possible

@JoshH Got a reply from the Quebec guy just now. He folded last fall, said done with the hobby, proceeded to go on a rant against the government heh. So scratch that one.

I know someone local to me who "Might" be getting into it and I've told them to contact humble. Won't be for a few months yet.

That PBT I got from Candy Corals seems to be disease free so far, eating and settling in. So a bit of a possibility there. I think Afnan imports directly as Humble mentioned above and that might be the reason
