Did you see the video in the amazon comments about how to make controllers for kessil or apex?
The hyperreef controller seems cheap enough. I don't have an apex or Kessel controller. I do have a reefkeeper lite, and might have a light controller for that. I also have an arduino laying around too.

Just barely. Like, a few hz lower than what would be detectable. Fwiw, on a screen, I can't tell any difference on refresh rate over 60hz, really. Ha
Seems to have stopped flickering/strobing now. As much as warranties and returns are cool, I just like stuff that works out of the box and the warranty service is uneeded. If it's still acting up today, I'll dig around for an extra power supply of the same rating. Seems to always come down to budget equipment coming with the worst power supplies possible.
It's a fresh buy? Send it back and order another.

I saw some had used the Kessel controller before.
I have Nicrews over two tanks, connected together and controlled by a single Kessil controller. Works great.

I have 5 Nicrew lights total and have not had any issues with any of them. I would also suggest simply that if there is a flicker to give any connecting cables a wiggle and a blow out. You never know. Assuming you didn't try that. If you tried that, then you know... don't bother trying again. Unless you really, really want to.

I'm sure it's just the dc-dc connection that's dirty. I'll fiddle with it. I bought the light to use at a frag swap this weekend, and I'll see if I use it continuously afterward, or put it away for the next event. The spectrum looks nice, and spread is far better than expected. If it's problematic still, I'll exchange it via Amazon.

Looking to replace 2xhydra52's; internals I think are getting shoddy and PSU's are shot. Want to work on fixing the lights at a later date. Would 2x100w nicrews over a 40b be good or would I get better spread out of 2 150's and just do that. Delving back into sps for consideration
Man, even one 150w should do it I'd think. 2 150s would be way overkill. @telegraham any par testing on the 150w version?

well I perfectly just installed hanging kits for these hydra 52s so 2 units that I can hang in the same spot is ideal :ROFLMAO:. They're both 15 inches wide so whichever model

I have the 100W. Sorry. Hit up fishofhex or watch his 150W vid. That might be helpful. Unfortunately, I don't think Travis did a direct comparison to his XR15s which would have maybe given you a hint regarding the 100W vs 150W performance.

If you try to take a video, does it flicker bad? It could be the PWM for dimmer is of low frequency.
I think its just a lemon. Rhe high frequency constant flicker quit. But now it will randomly flicker. 🤷‍♂️ Amazon will take it back. I should just get a refund and save up for a properly designed and manufactured light. Know anyone? 😉

So, would you say the Nicrew 150w is worth it over a cheaper smatfarm 95w? In my case, visual rendition is more important than optimized growth spectrum. basically, which would you use for a coral show? going to probably use a 40B, so i'm thinking the Nicrew would be a better spread, although come up a bit short. but, at the same time, the Smatfarm has 6 channels instead of only 2...if i was slightly wealthier, i'd get a certain lens-less light. ha
I have 7 smatfarms across 3 tanks and I am looking for a replacement on one of them. Here is why. The smatfarm lights work great. I have very consistent coral growth and the lights perform great. Here is where they fail.

Across all of my lights I have two different versions of software and I am not sure of any method to update them. They have no ports that would allow a software upgrade. Even with that said I would want to downgrade all the lights to a previous version of the controller software.

The modern version of the lights has a hard set-point where the cooling fan comes on. It is 25% intensity. If you hit 25% intensity on any channel the fan will turn on. Across all of my lights I have 1 or 2 of them that I find the fan noise to be acceptable. I have rotated lights across tanks to keep the lowest noise fans in the most occupied rooms. For this reason alone, I am shopping for swapping out the Smat's on one of my tanks. The rest would probably be rotated out as needed and I have no plans to purchase any more of them.

The Nicrew looks interesting and I may give it a go.

I never heard any noise on the nicrew 150w. Just has that flicker, so I'm going to return and either order another, or maybe get a reefi uno 2.0.
All 2 brands are similar in dollar/watt, but the reefi is clearly superior in build quality, controllibility, spectrum, customer support, and would be my top choice of any LED light if I wasn't such a cheapskate.

Check out ReeFi Uno 2.0 Pro. Fans are PID controller by temperature sensor and user set temperature.

I just posted a spectrum comparison of Uno2 vs Uno1 vs XR30 G6:
