Only two fish left, please help diagnose

Hi Guys, I'm very happy to be here and really hopeful to get some help.

My tank has been suffering from something for the last month. I've been getting a little bit of help on R2R but when I found out @Humblefish didn't post there anymore I came straight here.

I have 2 fish left in my tank, all others have died. The Melanarus wrasse seems totally indifferent to any problems. He has no symptoms at all. The purple tang looks 'dusty', she hides in a corner, she hasn't eaten in quite a few days now.

The R2R guys diagnosed flukes. I had already run two courses of Polyp Lab medic and they advised that I should stop that. I've also run two courses of Prazi (not prazipro, just 100% prazi tablets).

This is the purple 2 days ago. She looks a tiny bit better now, but not much. Today she started swimming into the pump flow which is indicative of velvet, but she's been sick for weeks and this is the first time she's done it.

Here are some behaviour videos

Argh! Ok! Thanks very much for this. I'll be home in a few hours, I'll catch her and dip and then keep her qt'd.

Thanks very much.

You will want to catch your wrasse too. I would suggest doing two H2O2 baths 6 days apart.

You will want to let your tank sit empty for 6 weeks as well. Removing the sand is best, but if you want to keep it make sur eyou are stirring it every day. Also get those powerheads absolutely blasting the rocks. You want to eliminate any dead zone in the tank. If I was in your shoes I would also dose H2O2 in the tank.

You can get a general outline here:

I really appreciate this guys, thanks! I just bought some 3% peroxide so will do the first bath tonight.
Can I bath the two fish together? I'm assuming around 1Gal (4L) would be ok for a tang or is that too little?

You can bath them together if they will deal with each other

That is what I do mine in. Not sure how large your fish is.... Make sur eyou aerate the water well before the bath. Simply follow HF's instructions he wrote up. Pretty simple, and safe bath. Then into a clean tank... Do the bath again in 70 hours and transfer tanks (Clean all the old equipment) again. I know its a lot of work, but that should get you into a safe zone.

If I was you as your fish look to be in rough shape I would do it one last time 70 hours after the 2nd transfer and bath... New tank and simply watch the fish...

Your other option is copper, you can do the H2O2 Bath and then into copper for 14 days. Then you can transfer to a clean tank and observe... Whatever you are more comfortable.

The good news is that when I got home from work the purple was happily pecking at algae again so she might be feeling better. This is the first time I've seen her eat in days and days. Once the qt is up to temp I'll be doing the bath and starting her quarantine.

Ok, the purple had a very uneventful bath and is now chilling in her 4 foot qt.

The wrasse is being a bugger (as expected) hopefully will get him over the next day or two when he's snoozing.

Update time.

Both fish are now in the qt after baths. The purple is active and eating but looks terrible. I think it's a good terrible, like she's covered in white patches but it makes sense that she'll look bad after the h202 bath. She hasn't looked this good actively speaking for weeks.

Wrasse is still totally oblivious.

Tank is really empty. Taking the opportunity to rebuild some of my Aquascape while nothing is in there.

So, another bath for both of them next Thursday which will be 6 days for the purple and 5 for the wrasse. Does that sound ok?

Then it's a countdown to 8th of Jan 🀣

This sounds good.

Glad you are moving in the right direction and we were able to catch it before it got the Purple. Wrasses dont care much about ich or velvet as their slime coat is so thick it usually doesn't effect them as much as something like a Tang. Keep an eye on them as you most likely will have to give the Tang some antibiotic baths as he will have a bunch of tiny bite marks all over him. So MB Baths will help heal but NFG Baths would be Ideal here.

Thanks for this. Forgive my ignorance but what is NFG? I tried to search for it but it's too short 😁

Nitrofuracin green.

Tip: to do a search with three characters or less, add a wildcard character: NFG*

Thanks for that.

Ok, so getting medications in Australia is quite difficult. I can find no source at all for NFG.

On this page, it appears that AAP Spectrogram is a substitute for NFG? Medications to keep on hand

Either way, I can't find any AAP Spectrogram either.

I found;
Seachem Metroplex
Continuum Rescue Fish M
API Melafix

Any of these look ok?

Both fish swimming freely and eating which is so good to see.

This is our best list of international meds: International Medication Guide

I don’t see anything that would be the same as NFG, but hopefully one of the @Fish Disease Experts will chime in with some advice.
