Ouch, patience with shipping saves you money (freight company issues)

Yeah, because of what @Jessican read on their website: The guarantee only applies if you purchased from IM directly, not from a third party. It sounds like you ordered through BRS. So, you’re either stuck with the tank or stuck with having to pay this cancellation fee.

Like @AlienReefer did, your best option might be to try to resell the tank locally.
Hmm, I would totally accept it and resell but I honestly don't have space for 2 tanks to be delivered in the next week and then sitting on it until it sells..

I feel I should say this ordeal has been with fiji cube. I posted innovative marine 30 day guarantee because I wanted to show a more beginner friendly policy.

I have no issues with IM just thought I'd post this because the title reads innovative marine now..

Well, I guess this post has been more of a learning experience for me, hopefully it can help people in the future making similar mistakes that I did. Please read the return policies carefully and more importantly be patient! I know I will in the future

I think what was confusing is shipping it to me was like $150 so I guess I expected it to be around that plus restocking fee, maybe a little more. Why is the cost so different when you order a tank?
The flooring company used to charge everyone the same flat shipping cost and absorbed the rest. The rate can be higher if you are far from the manufacturer (like east coast to west coast). When I was quoting the freight costs for the flooring company, the liftgate and residential together costed like $100+. Then there is fuel surcharge. That's just how the freight companies make money. We usually tried to go with the ones with most competitive pricing, and they are still $300 a pallet.

Ah OK that makes sense. Well, I'm ready for this whole situation to be over. Honestly fiji cube seems like a perfectly good company. If anything I guess it's the freight company I was disappointed with but even with that just seems like I was too impatient. Now after kind of coming to this realization this whole thread is kind of pointless. Kind of just makes me look dumb heh

If this is Fiji Cube maybe you should edit the thread title so not too confuse people.

In Fiji Cubes defense they have done nothing wrong that I can see. They shipped the tank like they should have. This is all on the freight company IMO.

I hope you get it figured out.

I was confused by the title. I have nothing but good things to say about Inovative Marine. I bought a 150 gallon set up from IM and it came "To" Chicago "From" California. My rep (Omar) was in contact with me the whole way until it was delivered and then even followed up a few weeks later. I was so impressed with the tank quality and service that I ordered a second 50 gallon tank set up from them. Same great experience.

I understand, I didn't add that in the title and am not able to edit it out, sorry. Please refer to post #22 in the thread. So far my only disappointment was really from a freight company

Call the freight company directly (use local number of where it's stuck not 1-800 number). I have to do this all the time when we receive freight orders for my business. Its probably sitting on a dock waiting for a "delivery appointment" but if you don't call them, you could wait forever before they call you.

Having a shipped item get stuck for a week would not effect who I do business with. I even had an amazon package yesterday say delivered but it never came. Guessing it will come today. This kind of stuff is just getting more and more common.

As for why it costs more to cancel then to ship, it probably costs a lot more to ship then you pay but when you purchase the tank they absorb some costs but when you return it not only would they not want to absorb that it's also going to cost them more to have it shipped back to them especially if it's made it almost the whole way to you.

I added it because I thought that would make it more clear which company you were airing grievances about. It looks like one of the other mods edited the title back to, “Ouch, be careful who you do business with”. We can just leave it that way, or add “Fiji Cube” to the title, or whatever you like… Sorry if I overstepped.

I took IM out of the title once it was clear the complaint wasn’t about IM (I think we were all confused at first, I thought it was about IM as well), but I didn’t add Fiji Cube because I don’t think the complaint is really about them, either. 🤷‍♀️

I hear ya. (y) I was just thinking to myself that, “Ouch, be careful who you do business with” doesn’t provide any real info regarding the subject of this thread. Especially for someone who goes searching later and finds this thread. I guess the complaint is really about shipping/the freight company??

Are these fees normal, do you know? I just feel like this can't be the first cancelation attempt, does it really cost that much? I know this is mostly my fault and I was prepared to pay fees just surprised by how much I guess
Unfortunately it's all normal. It's how they make money. I think i paid 800 bucks freight delivery for a shipping rate of 1400 lbs. My first tank took over 2 weeks to get here from california to pennslyvania and mine sat in Lancaster pennslyvania for over 5 days while I waited. Tank came shattered anyway. Now, when it came to pick up the shattered the original company who I'm assuming paid the freight claim quoted my manufacturing 5 times the original amount to pick up the tank from my house.

I know a guy who waited almost a year to have a tank built + shipped to him. (I forget the MFG.) Obviously that’s an extreme situation, but an example of what you can sometimes expect nowadays.
Cda quoted me 3 months time from order last may. They were on time but I had to wait another six weeks to replace the damaged tank. I just got the new tank last Thursday.

Id just like to say thank you to the forum. I know I can be ignorant on occasion with how things work in this hobby and you guys could have really made me feel dumb and tell me how wrong I was but you really just talked me through it and helped me understand. Thank you
No worries. I think most here realize that there is a steep learning curve sometimes when it comes to this hobby. Take solace knowing that many of us have made many of these same mistakes. Just earlier during our time in the hobby. Hell, I still operate half-cocked most of the time. Thankfully I have a loving wife to keep me grounded in life and a great staff @Moderators to help me manage this forum.
