I know it’s been a while since Humblefish first posted this so I am curious to know if there are any updates regarding using Seachem AmGuard while running Copper Power.

I don’t know the ingredients exactly but considering it’s similar usage to Prime and made by the same company I would THINK it’s ok. Have you heard anything or tried testing yourself @Humblefish ?

Hi @Humblefish! Hope everything is going well. Has there been any change in practice since your last post? I have a few expensive fish in QT now and my ammonia badge is starting to turn to the "ALERT" color at about 0.05 ppm. I have never had this issue when using my main QT system (approximately 40g) because I have lots of biofiltration. However, this time I ended up adding an extra fish I was not counting on. I have 5 tangs and 1 hogfish. Just did a controlled test with Seachem Prime and noticed that the Cu concentration did not change at all (CopperPower + Hanna tester)

Have you had any issues with Prime in the past years? I already added extra Microbacter7 to the system.

There is no issue using Prime with chelated copper only. However, there seems to be some controversy as to whether to not Prime actually works as advertised: Ethics Question: Testing Seachem Prime's Ability to Detoxify Ammonia

Unfortunately, I am not currently in a position to do any experimentation.

I ended up dosing yesterday and it definitely worked! Like you mentioned in the shared thread, you can see the difference when you add it! The fish act less stressed for sure.

I kept dosing Microbacter7 and trying to keep my pH up via aeration and the fish appear ok. Not sure why, but the copper dropped to 2.43 ppm when I tested this afternoon. However, I am inclined to believe this is more of an error with the reader or a concentration inconsistency during yesterday’s test. I achieved therapeutic levels are

I think what confuses some people is that Prime just temporarily binds ammonia for 24-48 hours; it doesn't actually remove it. So: A) Ammonia will still register on any test kit even in it's bound state B) Unless the ammonia gets filtered out or removed via water changes, it gets released back into the water after 24-48 hours.

^^ Or at least the above is how the Seachem "chemist" explained it to me. How do we ever know if these aquarium companies are telling us the truth or just full of 💩?? 🤷‍♂️
