Can the tto baths be used as prophylactic ?

Can the melafix baths ( tto ) be used during hybrid TTM?
Yes, I do it on all the fish that come through now. I like to use it as the Exit bath so it's the last bath between the QT and the Clean Observation Tanks.

And yes you can use them anytime just not WITH anything. I think people have mixed in MB and it SEEMS to have helped but I don't have any info on this.

@Dierks Great write up! So would it be ideal to treat prophylactically with tto? Can do it every 48 hours alongside ttm or even hybrid ttm?
Hey buddy I simply wanted to point out I have now begun to do this... I do it once going into the QT system and again on the way out to the clean tanks... If you are doing Anthias, chromis, damsels, and all the others that seem to get it I would say you should indeed do at least two baths if not the whole regiment.

You can do all of them if you want but that is getting close to the edge I would think. They would be squeaky clean when they came out! This is what the Copperbands will have to deal with coming through the hotel... So I will have to report back. Or if you do, please report back!
So I have found that TTO and than into copper seem to be just fine. I am not sure how many more you did but this is how we are doing it now. Just wanted to follow up.

So do you do a melafix bath, then H202 bath, then into the first tank?
I just wanted to let everyone watching this thread know that I will be interviewing @Dierks TOMORROW, May 23rd, 8PM EST about the very subject of this thread:

Come listen to the man himself talk about Uronema!!!

Do you think that method still works for Velvet or would you need more frequent transfers? Just trying to learn.
He isn’t using TTM at all - he’s doing a tea tree oil (TTO) bath for uronema, and then into copper for more traditional medicated QT.

TTM works for velvet if you either do two peroxide baths six days apart (Hybrid TTM) or 36 hour transfers (Velvet TTM).

Jessican nailed it - I do traditional treatment on our fish. In fact I have never done TTM!

Gotcha I got caught up in the reference to the ttm and thought you were describing a method of combining them...which would be nice to trial!

We could combo them, you simply cant do both the H2O2 together with the TTO. But you could simply set them up to do the baths on transfer days since its every other day.

@Dierks I'm trying the TTO Melafix right now with my green chromis and royal gramma . Question - why is the Melafix dosage low for the bath? Is it because it's the standard type instead of marine?

Anymore concentrated and you can very easily put your fish to sleep! This is what has been found to be an effective dose without knocking them out

Hi @Dierks! Just got off the livestream with the question about helping with the research. I have the following fish on QT with therapeutic Copper Power:

1 - Cuban Hogfish
1 - Orange Shoulder
1 - Mimic Tang
1 - Gem tang
1 - Atlantic Blue Tang
1 - Vlamingii Tang

QT: +/- 45 Gallons ReedSea Reefer
Cu: 2.54 ppm
Prazipro X2

I am willing to try and play with TTO. Have done it in the past but I honestly did not dip this batch before adding.

All you have to do is simply do your baths and you can do them whenever you like. If you arent doing any formalin or anything that will keep it at bay while you have them in QT I would suggest lining up the last bath with the last transfer out o the Tanks --

So i you are doing 14 days of copper treatment I would do this:

Day one into copper ---
Do your standard treatment for your ich, velvet, brooks and fluke treatment here...

Day 10: TTO Bath
Day 12: TTO Bath
Day 14: TTO Bath and into clean observation tanks.

Ideally you would transfer them into clean tanks but I know that isn't possible all the time. If this is precautionary then I wouldn't worry to much about the antibiotics between baths.

I hop that makes sense,,,

it is definitely prophylactic! I did notice a scale from the Hogfish floating around today tho. That makes me a little nervous. But no other signs so far.

Yup Hogfish have those big old scales we talk about... All the Hogfish I have put through TTO take it no problem at all.

Words cannot express how much I appreciate you and @Humblefish. The knowledge I’ve gained here has forever changed the way I approach this hobby. Since I stumbled upon this forum, I have not lost a single fish to disease! In fact, I am putting together a little side business in Miami. Your experience and guidance is greatly appreciated.
